The name Buick is one that has been around the world of vehicles for a very long time. The company was established in 1903 and continues to offer plenty of types of vehicles to consumers today. The company got its start in Detroit, Michigan but it was moved to Flint, Michigan within a year.

Buick has been the foundation for General Motors (GM) which was established in 1908. Many people realize it has been a competitor of Ford since those early days. What many people don’t know though is that there were actually merger talks between the two companies in early 1907.

In 1914, the company changed the way vehicles were offered. They introduced the 6 cylinder engine as well as the electrical starter. Even so, it wasn’t until 1936 when they had a vehicle that could go 100 miles per hour. They called it the Buick Century!

The Buick name began getting lots of publicity in 1962. This was due to the introduction of the Buick Special. It was named Motor Trend Car of the Year. The following year is when the Riviera was introduced. Not only was it the 50 year anniversary car, it has been considered by many to be the best looking Buick model ever created.

The company decided to enter new territory in 1965. This is when it introduced the sports car called the Gran Sport. However, it didn’t do so well once the Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang came along a few years later. One of the best selling Buick vehicles in recent years has been the 2013 crossover called the Encore.
