There is no mistaking the Volkswagen Beetle when you see it! This is an iconic car that seems to have its own personality. The vehicle has gone through several transformations over the years. It still continues to be popular and to get lots of attention. It is a fun vehicle to drive and does well in the area of fuel economy. It offers 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
The newer models feature a 5 cylinder engine that has plenty of power. There is also a turbo charged 4 cylinder available as an upgrade. There is even one of them that offers the use of diesel fuel. That particular one gets better fuel mileage of about 28 mpg in town and 41 mpg on the highway.
The vehicle handles well but it isn’t as quiet as many of the other small cars out there. The gentle hum though of the Beetle is part of what makes it unique and holds onto the roots. The back seating area is crowded which is one of the drawbacks of it. There is a minimal amount of storage provided. Yet the interior is workable even though it is simple. The seats are comfortable in the front.
While the Volkswagen Beetle gets good safety reviews, it doesn’t have the additional benefits that you often find in the small cars. Perhaps when it goes through the next re-design phase there will be such extras provided either as a standard element or as a consumer option to upgrade.
