The car company known as Saturn was introduced in 1985. The decision was made by GM to create this company. They wanted to introduce cars that could compete with many of the imports coming from Japan and Korea. The slogan for the company was “A Different Kind of Car” and consumers were very happy with it.
The fact that the Saturn was a nice looking vehicle and also affordable made them practical in the eyes of consumers. The first models were available in 1990 and did very well. The Saturn SL and Saturn SC models were the top sellers.
In 2002, Saturn introduced the first SUV for the line, known as the Vue. A larger sized SUV was introduced in 2007, the Outlook. In 2005, they introduced a minivan called the Relay. The goal was to continue offering a variety of types of vehicles to attract various consumer markets. However, by 2009 sales had significant dropped.
One of the shortcomings for Saturn is that the vehicles didn’t compete with the upgraded safety features. Most of the vehicles they offered had the basic safety elements in place but nothing addition. Saturn discontinued making vehicles in 2010. You will still find plenty of them on the roads.
